Typewriters and related materials for sale in store or online.

The end goal is to encourage an appreciation of history, and to cultivate an interest in the preservation, restoration, and use of antique typewriters as a tool for business and creativity.

In addition to this, I wish to help foster a community of creative individuals seeking unique outlets for artistic expression.

Each machine is carefully worked to a high industry standard ensuring both the preservation of the machine, as well as mechanical functionality to the fullest possible extent; including flexible attention to details and a level of care that is tailored to suit every client’s varied and unique needs, lifestyles, and workflows.

Site Navigation: On mobile, there will be a dropdown menu on the upper left of the screen. On desktop you can select from the open menu on the top right. For typewriter repair, visit the link for typewriter repair. Social media links are at the very bottom.

A note about the waitlist: There is currently a high volume of people waiting for their typewriters to be repaired. This type of work is detail-oriented and time consuming, so the waitlist can easily span several months. We strive to ensure that every machine that leaves the shop has been taken care of to the highest possible standards. The customer on the workbench always comes first. Thank you for your patience and understanding! If you can’t wait, there is a time and a half charge added for express service.

UPDATES

Here’s why we are closed this week (until June 13, 2025):

The shop is coming up on its one year anniversary and that is very exciting! This year has seen a lot of changes as we attempt to grow and adapt to the ever-growing typewriter market! It has come as a welcome surprise to us all at Typewriter Chicago, and has seen not only the storefront, but also the partnership with Ellis Noel for camera repair, and the recent addition of Charlie Doyle to the apprentice repair team!

We are taking a brief hiatus to re-organize the shop and set up some much-needed upgraded tooling. The backlog has not progressed at a faster pace like we had hoped, so the business needs some restructuring to ensure that we can still deliver the same quality work with increased efficiency.
