The end goal is to encourage an appreciation of history, and to cultivate an interest in the preservation, restoration, and use of antique typewriters as a tool for business and creativity.
In addition to this, I wish to help foster a community of creative individuals seeking unique outlets for artistic expression.
Each machine is carefully worked to a high industry standard ensuring both the preservation of the machine, as well as mechanical functionality to the fullest possible extent; including flexible attention to details and a level of care that is tailored to suit every client’s varied and unique needs, lifestyles, and workflows.
Site Navigation: On mobile, there will be a dropdown menu on the upper left of the screen. On desktop you can select from the open menu on the top right. For typewriter repair, visit the link for typewriter repair. Social media links are at the very bottom.
A note about the waitlist: There is currently a high volume of people waiting for their typewriters to be repaired. This type of work is detail-oriented and time consuming, so the waitlist can easily span several months. I do not rush through the work I do, and strive to ensure that every machine that leaves my shop has been taken care of to the highest possible standards. The customer on the workbench always comes first. Thank you for your patience and understanding! I may not get to your machine soon, but I will eventually. If you can’t wait, there is a time and a half charge added for express service.

“I've always admired the artwork on the ribbon tins that come from Typewriter Chicago so when I saw that it was being offered on apparel I jumped at the chance to get a shirt. The color choices were all pretty brilliant and the material appeared to be really comfortable so I went for it, and I'm glad that I did. I can tell you that the color was exactly as advertised and the shirt is comfortable as all get-out.
Just one more way for me to proudly display to the world my love for all things analog. Eventually I'd like to own the whole set!”
Ian McAndrew [Iron Fox Typewriters], September 2021 - T-shirts
“I ordered two black ribbons from Lucas and I am very pleased with the results, I got a notification for shipping about a week later and was surprised when I checked the tracking number the next day they had already arrived! Not to mention the awesome tins. 10/10”
Cameron Bowes, July 2021 - Ribbons
“(*****) I contracted Lucas to restore three typewriters: a 1901 Wiliams 4, an 1892 Remington 2, and my holy grail, a 1935 Smith-Corona Standard with the Animal Keyboard. Lucas took time to learn exactly what I wanted him to accomplish and provided a fair estimate for this work. You can read other reviews that clearly prove his status as a master typewriter repairman and restoration expert. A great example of his restoration skills - Lucas was able to use modern day objects for parts. He used PPE mask elastic to make bands for my Remington 2. Ingenious!
However, I feel his strength lies in his customer service and communication skills. He made me feel like I was a part of the restoration sending photos and messages to update me on the progress. In all three cases, there were decisions to be made that changed the outcome. Lucas pointed out the pros/cons and we made a revised plan together.
I look forward to sending two new restorations him very soon."

“I contacted Lucas to take care of my Olivetti Lettera 25. It needed a deep cleaning, a new ribbon, and minor repairs. I found out Lucas is a master craftsman! Meticulous, caring, and precise with my machine. The entire process was an absolute joy. My lettera 25 looks magnificent and types better than when I bought it all those years ago. Thank you Lucas.”
Raymond Bally, February 2021 - Typewriter Repair
“I am Happily enjoying the New Typewriter ribbon for my RQDL. I placed my order for a New Solid Black Ribbon and am very pleased to get my order securely packaged. The ink was neatly packed in a plastic bag, which is a great idea, securely within the screw top tin with a cool Lucas original designed dealer sticker. I swapped out the old ribbon and WOW the Letters POP out crisper than before.
I look forward to doing business in the future.”
Wesley C., February 2021 - Ribbons and Stickers
“Lucas is wonderful to do business with. So much talent and insight. Love my ribbons, especially orange! Reasonable shipping and quick service. Thanks Lucas!”
Patti Barnett, October 2020 - Ribbons and Silver Prints
“As a founding member of Austin Typewriter, Ink. and a lifetime collector of typewriters I am very particular about the type of ribbons I use for my machines, particularly the Remington Noiseless and Remington Rand Model 1 series. I am always looking for a good quality cotton ribbon, so I reached out to Lucas to give his ribbons a whirl on some newly repaired machines. He promptly sent five ribbons to me in Austin. And let me just add that they come in these cool tins that are very awesomely packaged. I'd call them "collectables" as well considering it's a throwback to the way they were sold back in the day. I quickly put one into my Remington Noiseless and when it came time for the moment of truth - typing out a few sentences - SUPERB!! The ink was very solid on the paper (which is the ultimate test) and gave me the "old style" look that I prefer. I understand that Lucas also has nylon, silk available and I'll have to try those. Cotton is just my preference for these particular machines I use most often. If you're looking for quality source for ribbon, then you absolutely have to contact Lucas for your typewriter ribbon needs. And, I'll also say I've seen his quality work on typewriters from photos of a banged up typewriter to the repaired machine - also meticulous, clean and superb workmanship.”
David Torres, October 2020 - Ribbon Order
“I love my black ribbon from Lucas Dul! High quality, great price ,wonderful collectable and useful tin too :) I highly recommend and will purchase again.”
Doug Jackson, October 2020 - Ribbon Order
“Lucas answered my emailed questions promptly and completely, and shipped my ribbons immediately upon receiving my order—they were in my West Coast mailbox long before I thought to wonder about them! I ordered old metal spools to replace the cheap plastic spools that came with my 1930s Royals, and they make me feel good when I lift the ribbon cover. The ribbons themselves are good-quality, fine-weave nylon, leave an even, dark imprint, and come in a generous yardage (no half-filled spools here)! I'm glad I found Lucas and look forward to ordering from him again.”

UPDATES
Here’s why I stopped working for six months:
Between February and July, I have been working to build out, move into, and open a brick and mortar typewriter shop. It took a lot of work to pack things up, a lot of organization, and a lot of…well…money. So to everyone who patiently waited for me, thank you so very much. And thank you for your support as well. I’ve been fixing typewriters for ten years now, and I hope I can make it happen for another ten. The new space should help me move repairs faster, get more machines for sale, AND allow for some on-the-spot adjustments and repairs so you guys aren’t waiting with broken typewriters longer than you need.
