Harper’s was also responsible for the publication of Moby Dick, in November of 1851. The earliest issue in this volume is a mere month later. Harper’s is also most famous for covering the American Civil War.

The book itself is intact and in good condition, though the spine shows wear and is pealing away. The illustrations inside are absolutely beautiful and display a wonderful look into the time period pre-dating the American Civil War.

Some of the topic in this book may be found to be incredibly racist and/or offensive, and is a product of the time it was created in.
