Universal Standard Typewriter Ribbons (FOR ALL TYPEWRITERS UNLESS NOTED)
What is a typewriter without a ribbon? A paradox of some sort, a type-writer that neither types nor writes. If you would like your typewriter to both type AND write, then you probably would want to consider purchasing one of these. These typewriter spools are designed to fit with almost all typewriters. They measure two inches in diameter, or about the size of a very very large peanut. You can take your pick from the generic vanilla white bread plastic spools, or spice up your writing life with antique metal spools.
You can also chose to purchase your ribbon in a ribbon tin which offers a variety of advantages. The tin keeps your ribbon fresh and protected in the best way possible. Through rain or shine it will remain ready for your next need at a moment’s notice. After being used, the tin can be repurposed for nearly anything from storage containers on your desk, to small pots or candle holders. Maybe even a soap dish, or a geocache, or a satellite if you have a strong enough potato canon. Ribbon tins have been used for many decades as a tried and true means of ensuring the freshness and longevity of your ribbons.
As a bonus, the metal spools, when tied to a string, sometimes ring like little bells, so that’s cool. They don’t bounce quite as high as the plastic ones, and also don’t float very well in water. So they are not excellent ship building equipment. In the machine type form field, let me know if you’re dying to have spoked spools rather than the normal solid type ones. Those are even less seaworthy in case you were wondering.
Fit exceptions are listed below. You can take your pick from either plastic spools, or from antique metal spools (cosmetic condition will vary).
NOTE: Universal 2 Inch Spools DO NOT FIT: Olivetti, Remington, Royal Standards (desktops excluding the flatbed models), Underwood Noiseless, Halda, Corona Folding, Corona 4, Corona Skyriter, Corona Zephyr, L.C. Smith, Woodstock, or any machine that uses cartridge ribbons with the exception of Roy-Type machines.
